Norms of the Park
The Inca Trail is part of the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, a protected area under the administration of the National Institute of Natural Resources (INRENA - Spanish acronym). Every visitor is obliged to follow the rules laid down for the Sanctuary.
1. REGARDING THE PAYMENT OF ENTRANCE FEES
- The only document that validates the payment for The Right of Use of the Inca Road Network of Machu Picchu (RED - Spanish acronym) is the ticket emitted by The Administrative Unit of the Historical Sanctuary of Machu Picchu (UGM - Spanish acronym). It is personal and un-transferable and the entrance ticket to the citadel is included in the price.
- The payment can only be made in the city of Cusco. The price is US $ 50.00.
- Under no circumstances will any payment for the UGM ticket be accepted at the entrance control and registration points of the Inca Trail itself.
- The ticket must be bought a minimum of five days before entering the trail.
- Under no circumstances will the UGM ticket fee paid be subject to a refund.
- In the case of having made the corresponding payment and the visiting days having been fixed, a postponement can be made up till four days before the planned departure. The fee for this is an additional 20%. Such postponement is subject to the carrying capacity of the required route.
2. REGARDING RESERVATIONS
- Reservations should be made in the offices of the Departmental Office of the National Institute for Culture located in the city of Cusco. A confirmation of the corresponding reservation code number will be given at that time.
Please note that the reservations are subject to the daily carrying capacity of people established by the UGM (500 people, including guides, porters, auxiliary personnel and approximately 150 tourists), so we suggest making the reservations as early as possible.
- Tour operators may make reservations up to maximum of sixty (60) days before the programmed start of the trek. At that time they only need to make a 50% payment of the required entrance fees.
- To maintain the required reservations it is necessary to cancel the outstanding amount, as well as indicating in detail the names, passport numbers, age, nationality of the visitors to be attended together with a photocopy of their passport. This information must be furnished by the traveller from his country of origin.
- In the case of non-compliance of the confirmation of a reservation, this will be cancelled. No refunds will be made in these cases.
- Anyone up to 28 years of age with an international student ID has a right to a 50% discount.
